Years later, his skin turns white due to a magical spring and he moves from the jungle to the city. MACUNAÍMA is based on Mario de Andrade’s 1928 novel of the same name, a key work of Brazilian modernism. With grotesque opulence and a wild blend of jungle and civilization, he creates a dense system of relationships that maps out all the different influences that make up modern Brazil.
